Sad, but true. Unless anyone is a secret millionaire, of
course.
According
to howstuffworks.com, a first-class ticket on Titanic cost between $2500 and $4500 in 1912, which equates to anywhere between $43,860 to $78,950 in today’s
economy. Third-class tickets were a
relative steal at just $35 ($620 today.)
Given that a first-class ticket could cost approximately twice the annual salary
of anyone reading this blog, odds are good we would have been sleeping four
people to a room, on bunk beds, with no access to lifeboats.
Another fun
fact: second and third-class passengers boarded the ship at 9:30am, while
first-class travelers didn’t arrive until 11:30am. No sleeping in for us! Then again, it probably took Rose two hours
to get that hat on at just the right
angle, so take comfort in the fact that she didn’t sleep in, either.
